BITS & PIECES
- PWC Crime Prevention Officer Marty Leake
addressed scam and identity theft prevention at the October
General Meeting. Look for tips in the January newsletter. If you’ve been a
victim, contact him at 703-792-7232 or mleake@pwcgov.org.
- The PWC Planning Commission approved new zoning
regulations
to ban or restrict the parking of
several types of commercial vehicles on private land, including that of small
businesses. Despite objections by small businesses, the commission favored
amendments targeting box trucks on less than 10 acres or parking more than one
commercial vehicle at homes with less than three acres. Such vehicles will
have to be parked elsewhere, which presents a time and financial hardship to
small businesses. County supervisors are scheduled to vote on the amendments
November 26. Contact Brentsville District Supervisor (Ben Thompson) to voice
your opinion on this issue.
- J.M. Huey Company recently completed construction
of an additional building at the Nokesville
Volunteer Fire Department. The 24' x 48' storage facility with three open bays
will house rescue equipment, such as the Gator All-Terrain Vehicle, and
trailer-portable equipment. Huey’s work started in July and was completed in
early September.
- An article about Dona Swanson, Nokesville Library
Supervisor
, appeared in the Bull Run
Observer. One man who asked for her help about 15 years ago eventually led
her into mentoring literacy volunteers. Read all about it in the 25
September issue of Bull Run Observer. For more information on Literacy
Volunteers of America, visit www.pwcweb.com/lva.
- Do you eat at your desk or on the run?
If your New Year’s Resolution will be to eat better under
those circumstances, would you like to share a lunch menu idea with fellow NBA
members? Please submit one or two to the editor for publication in the January
or February newsletter.
