Tax Referendum Debate Sponsored by NBA on September 17
The NBA will sponsor a debate on the Transportation Tax Referendum on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30PM at the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD).
Virginia House of Representatives Delegate Robert Marshall (R-District 13) and Prince William County Clerk of the Court Dave Mabie will express their opposing views. The primary issue is whether voters in Northern Virginia, including Prince William County, should approve a sales tax increase to 5% (up from 4.5%) to support transportation improvements. The focus of this debate will be the referendum’s impact on the Nokesville area, including Route 28 and other transportation means. Mr. Mabie will argue for approval of the referendum, Mr. Marshall against.
Each speaker will have ten minutes to discuss his points, then the floor will open for questions and comments from the audience. According to NBA’s Vice President Anthony Slaga, this is apparently the only such forum scheduled for the area, so a good turnout is expected.
The NVFD is located at 12826 Marsteller Drive in Nokesville.
