Nokesville Sign and Flagpole Dedication to Be Held October 19
(By Stan Keys, Treasurer, NBA with Gail Williams, Editor)
October 19, 2002 will be a big day for Nokesville. The third Saturday in October is traditionally known for the Ruritans’ Brunswick Stew, but this year the day will include the dedication of the new Nokesville sign and flagpole at the intersection of Route 28 and Fitzwater Drive. The community event, sponsored by NBA and the Ruritans, will feature prominent speakers, a ribbon-cutting and music.
Dave Mabie, Prince William County Clerk of the Court and Nokesville resident, and Ben Thompson, Brentsville District Supervisor, will address the audience. Tom Basham, NBA President and Ed Watson, Nokesville Ruritan President, will cut the dedication ribbon. Copper Mabie will sing and the BDHS band will play. Nokesville Boy Scout Troop 671 will raise the flag.
The NBA will set up its information booth, sell T-shirts and hand out dedication souvenirs. Attendees may want to bring lawn chairs for the event.
The sign and flagpole, which will welcome visitors to Nokesville, are the result of a lot of hard work and time by many local citizens. The NBA, the Nokesville Ruritan Club, Artworks, Inc., BDHS Horticultural Department, Majestic Landscapes, and Hickerson Brothers Electric Service have been or will be involved in these projects.
The NBA raised the money for the Welcome to Nokesville sign, which was designed and made by Scott Lewczak of Artworks and presented on Nokesville Day. The Ruritans will soon erect the flagpole, after county zoning is approved. Brian Hickerson, President of Hickerson Brothers, installed the lighting for both sign and flagpole. The Horticultural Department and Scott Nelson, owner of Majestic, will work together on the landscaping.
This will be a very special day for Nokesville. We hope you and your friends will come out, enjoy the Brunswick Stew, and attend the dedication of our community flag and welcome sign.
