NBA Representatives Invited to Hear Speech by President Bush

Congressional Representative Tom Davis invited five NBA members to attend a speech given by President George W. Bush at the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC).

On the morning of June 17, the President addressed an audience estimated at around 400 on his vision of business and community college cooperation to improve the employment outlook for this region. During his half-hour speech, he cited his Jobs and Growth Bill, which will send money back to people to spend, help create jobs and train/retrain people to fill these jobs.

The President said the NVCC system plays a critical role in training northern Virginia’s work force for those businesses seeking such employees. In particular, he saw an opportunity for high-tech manufacturing and health care firms to encourage community colleges to turn out well-trained future employees.

The NBA representatives in the audience were: President Jim Hobbs, Secretary Dona Swanson, Membership Chairman J. P. Landahl, Nokesville Biz editor Gail Williams, and Ellen Killkelly, owner of Sea Jay Farms.
