First Summer Musical and Picnic in the Park
By Dona Swanson
The air was hot, but a breeze brushed over the crowd as it listened to the
first "Summer Musical and Picnic in the Park" event on Sunday evening, June 23rd,
sponsored by NBA. Under the roof of the Nokesville Park pavilion approximately
fifty members of the Prince William Community Band played music to stir the
hearts of the entire audience with their theme of "Let Freedom Ring" while
families, some with dogs, sat on the grass, lawn chairs, and picnic tables. Boy
Scout Troop 671 cooked up and served hot dogs and hamburgers, and offered
drinks, chips, and ice cream treats. A pre-show offered by a talented local
group called the SKB Project Band, entertained the gathering audience. After the
performances, many families stayed on until dusk to chat with strangers and
neighbors, enjoying the convivial mood set by this community activity.
