NOKESVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HOSTS 6TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY DAY PICNIC

By Gail Williams

The Nokesville United Methodist Church (NUMC) will sponsor the 6th Annual Community Day picnic on Saturday, August 3 from 9AM to 1PM. People of all ages are welcomed and sure to enjoy the food and fun. Community agencies, other churches, civic organizations and anyone who just wants to donate time or equipment are invited to set up activities and information booths and tables.

Some events this year include the Boy Scouts’ Dutch oven cook-off, Lion’s Club dunking booth, the Prince William County fire safety trailer, children’s games and entertainment, and health information. The NBA and the neighborhood library will also be there to raise awareness of their presence in Nokesville. Because of the voluntary community involvement, activities vary from year to year and have included pony rides, donkey cart rides, horseshoes and bingo.

"People share whatever they have to share," said NUMC’s Pastor Joe Klotz (Reverend Joe, as he’s commonly known). "It’s different every year." Community Day gives people an opportunity to meet others in the community and to provide information about Nokesville and its organizations to those new to the area.

Community Day began in 1997 when there were no volunteers to teach NUMC’s vacation Bible school. A church member took an idea from a Methodist magazine: sponsor a community picnic as an outreach. It worked and is now held the first Saturday in August. And it’s free to all!

If you’re interested in sponsoring an activity or sharing information about your organization, please contact Rev. Joe Klotz at 703-594-2141 or email jknumc@yahoo.com. The church is located at 12550 Aden Rd. near the park.
