NVFD TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL EMS WEEK

National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week and Virginia Volunteer Rescue Squad Week will occur 20 - 26 May, with many units holding special events for children on 23 May. EMS Week allows teams to show off their equipment and capabilities. It's also a chance for the community to show appreciation for their year-round work.

At the Nokesville VFD, the week presents an opportunity to display its emergency medical and rescue capabilities and equipment, including the brand new John Deere Gator. This modified all-terrain vehicle can be used to retrieve accident victims from hard-to-reach sites.

While the celebration is national, our area is close to one of the 9-11 attacks. Several members of the NVFD responded to the Pentagon emergency and one went to New York. Therefore, EMS Week would be an especially great time to thank our everyday local heroes for being prepared to help us in emergencies.

Shortly after EMS week, the NVFD will participate in the annual Nokesville Day activities. On Saturday, June 1, our fire department will be in the parade. Afterwards, it will host other activities at the fire house and on Fitzwater Drive. Check out the new website www.nvfd5.org or call 703-594-2220 for information on these and other events.
