Brunswick Stew Day Brings Out the Community
The Nokesville Ruritan Club’s
annual Brunswick Stew Day is October 15. In years past, the third Saturday in
October was a day for residents to buy the stew cooked outside over flames in a
few pots; they could eat the meal on site under the tent or take it home.

Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA 11th) announced in late July that the House of Representatives had approved funding for several Northern Virginia projects, including $200,000 for the revitalization of Nokesville’s historic main street, Fitzwater Drive. The money will be used to help meet some of the needs and goals identified by the community, local organizations, businesses and the Nokesville Business Association, such as streetscape improvements and increased cultural activities. -- New Nokesville Sign Is UP!
Our
Nokesville Sign designer and constructor, Scott Lewczak of Artworks, did a
superhuman job of constructing and installing the new Nokesville sign in time
for Nokesville Day. Ably assisted by NBA member Jim Hobbs, he worked diligently
Friday before Nokesville Day to have something to show to the Nokesville
community. The Nokesville sign is not completed yet. Electric boxes and
spotlights have been installed by Brian Hickerson of Hickerson Electric, but are
not operational while awaiting for a permit so that Virginia Power can make the
connection. Changes to the sign, including a Nokesville event sign below the
existing sign and adding business and organization plaques from the old
Nokesville sign to the "wings" will be completed this summer...

-- New Nokesville Sign is Coming!
The Nokesville Business Association is expecting to have final county authorization to install the new Nokesville Sign at the entrance of Fitzwater Drive and Route 28 in May this year. In fact, by the time the newsletter is distributed, we hope to have approval and construction begun. Our original estimate to complete construction was 30 to 60 days after county approval. Tentatively we have county support to install the sign on the Route 28 right-of-way by the Nokesville Shopping Center. The NBA does not foresee any major problems at this time and has contracted with Scott Lewczak, Artworks, Inc., to build the sign....
