Introducing The Nokesville Business Association
By Tony Slaga, Former Vice President
The Nokesville Business Association (NBA) was founded in the fall of 2000 when a small number of Nokesville business owners recognized a need for working together to promote networking and businesses in the Nokesville area. The NBA was formally established in January 2001 when By-Laws were approved and elections held. The purpose of the NBA is to encourage the establishment, growth and promotion of businesses within the Nokesville area. The NBA improves and strengthens the business climate through active communications among our membership and with citizens and other groups that desire to make Nokesville a better place to live and work. The NBA aims to revitalize our community and maintain the rural character of Nokesville
Less then half way into our second year, the NBA has 52 of our 75 member goal. This is quite an accomplishment considering the size of our business community. The NBA Executive Board believes that our success is a result of the organization providing meaningful services and benefits to our business community, as well as real contributions to the community as a whole. The Nokesville Biz newsletter and Nokesville Business Directory have been well received. Our first major project to beautify Nokesville by raising funds for a Nokesville village welcome sign was very successful. We are only waiting for the county to approve our plans.
For the calendar year 2002, the NBA has a number of ambitious goals developed from results of a survey among members and a special goal-setting meeting in February. In addition to promoting Nokesville businesses and improving communications within the Nokesville business community (for example a "Hot Item" e-mail and an NBA website), the NBA would like to help establish a "Friends of Nokesville" group that would include key Nokesville organizations. "Friends of Nokesville," primarily a fundraising group, would hopefully support a number of projects to revitalize Nokesville. Among those projects considered would be a Community Room or Center, a Farmers' Market and a Nokesville Visitors Center. These and other projects are proposed in the Nokesville Sector Plan.
With your help and support, the NBA can grow and be a positive influence in our community. The NBA welcomes those persons engaged in a commercial, service or mercantile activity as a means of livelihood within the Nokesville zip code area. An associate membership is available to those who do business outside our area or support our aims. Membership applications are available through our membership chairman, J.P. Landahl (703 594-3777), at Nokesville Neighborhood Library, or by attending one of our meetings. NBA meetings start at 6:00 pm on the third Tuesday of the month at the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department building. Hope to see you there!
